She competes in the women's strawweight division and is the two-time and current UFC Women's Strawweight World Champion. She Recaptured her title with a 90 seconds shocking Head Kick knockout against Chinese superstar Zhang Weili who held a 21 fight win streak.


A moment for the history book. However, Rose always stay modest about her accomplishments and her life.


Possessing one of the most well-rounded games in the sport, Namajunas is quick and powerful on her feet along with having an incredibly smooth ground game. While other fighters may do specific things better, few fighters have the complete package that Namajunas owns. A true mixed martial artist, Namajunas is almost always good for an incredibly exciting fight.

10. why Rose shaved her head

When Rose Namajunas made the switch from Invicta to the UFC, she had long locks. However, a few months after her UFC debut, she sported a buzz cut that shocked the audience at the time. The fighter revealed her new look in an Instagram post and explained what motivated the makeover. She wrote, “It’s a fight not a beauty pageant. S**t’s in my way at practice…cut it off!” ‘Thug Rose’ has ascended to the pinnacle of the division and made her look iconic among MMA circles. The hairstyle shows her dedication to her chosen profession which she has displayed from a young age.


9. The origin of her Rose Namajunas nickname

Fighter nicknames play a huge role in promoting the fighters who often become renowned due to it. At times, it reflects their personality outside the cage, whilst on occasions, it reflects their fighting style or their aura. For Namajunas, it can be attributed to who she is. In a chat with Joe Rogan a couple of years ago, she spilled the beans on ‘Thug Rose.’ On the Joe Rogan Experience, she said, “My ice-cold stare, like staring down Joanna, I developed that long ago. I was never a witty person. I never had like a good comeback for anything, so I just had to beat people’s butts that was making fun of me. Or I had to scare them off. So that’s like where it came from.”She continued. “I had some Jamaican neighbors, her name was Erica Gibbs, and she used to always be like, that’s Thug Rose right there, that’s Thug Rose.” The name has certainly stuck and fans can see why as the look is ever-present in her fights. Now she is known by her moniker all over the planet.


8. She had a challenging upbringing

Namajunas was brought up in a rough neighborhood marred by drugs and gangs. Her home situation was far from ideal due in part to her father suffering from schizophrenia. She has also previously alluded to abuse that she suffered during her childhood. “I grew up with lots of anger, frustration and violence in my heart,” she said in an interview. Namajunas today, by her own admission, continues to be troubled by her past. However, she is battling to overcome her difficulties with the support of fiancé and former UFC heavyweight Pat Barry. Her intention going forward is to be an advocate for mental health awareness as well as a beacon of hope for youngsters going through similar problems that she faced.


7. She reached the final of “The Ultimate Fighter”

In 2014, Namajunas, who was 22 at the time, competed in the Ultimate Fighter Season 20. Despite coming into the show with only three professional bouts to her credit, it was soon apparent that she was going to be a force to be reckoned with. Having used her grappling skills to see off three successive opponents via submission, the uber prospect faced Carla Esparza at The Ultimate Fighter Finale in December 2014 where the victor would be crowned the inaugural UFC strawweight champion.It was Esparza’s eleventh professional fight, but only Namajunas’ fourth. Esparza used her formidable takedown game to force the action to the mat at every opportunity. And although Namajunas succumbed to a third-round rear-naked choke, the experience was to prove invaluable for the young prospect.


6. Who Is Rose Namajunas Dating?

Rose Namajunas is engaged to former UFC Heavyweight Pat Barry. Barry was a longtime UFC veteran who debuted all the way back at UFC 92 in 2008. During his time in the UFC, Barry faced off against some of the best heavyweight fighters in the history of the sport – including former heavyweight legend Mirko Cro Cop. Barry was one of the best UFC heavyweight prospects in his heyday, though he, unfortunately, was never able to break through into the sport’s upper echelon. He was given shots against Cro Cop, Cheik Kongo, and Stephen Struve, but was unable to pick up a win against any of the three and eventually called it quits after yet another loss in 2013. Known for his devastating kicks and tendency to throw technique to the wind and brawl with opponents, Barry was one of the UFC’s most exciting heavyweight fighters. While never reaching his fullest potential, Barry was a fighter Dana White and the UFC could feel incredibly comfortable plugging into any card for a fight that would almost certainly end in a knockout.


5. She is a Young Achiever

Namajunas competed in fights right from the time she came of age. She went undefeated in amateur competition between the age of 18-20. ‘Thug Rose’ signed with Invicta at 20 and claimed 2 quick submission wins as a professional. The first of these came via rear-naked choke, which has gone on to become her signature submission. The strawweight fighter has claimed 4/ 5 career submission victories by tapping her opponents via the hold.  In her 2nd fight, Namajunas claimed a lightning-quick 12-second win via a flying armbar. At 21, she competed in the Strawweight Championship tournament. En route to the final, ‘Thug Rose’ submitted Alex Chambers, Joanne Calderwood, and Randa Markos. However, Carla Esparza proved to be a little tough for the youngster who tapped to a rear-naked choke.  At 23, Namajunas launched a comeback and claimed 3 wins on the bounce. She beat Angela Hill, Paige VanZant, and Tecia Torres. ‘Thug Rose’ lost a split decision fight to Karolina Kowalkiewicz but tied the women’s UFC submission record in her very next fight to set up a clash with the undefeated Joanna Jędrzejczyk aged just 24.


4. First-person to beat Joanna Jędrzejczyk

Rose Namajunas went on an impressive run and earned a clash against Jędrzejczyk. The fight revealed a fired up ‘Thug Rose’ who claimed a maiden win via TKO and ascended to the pinnacle of the women’s 115 lbs division. She was just 25 at the time and ended Jędrzejczyk’s perfect 14-0 record with a stunning first-round finish.The shocker took place at UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden. 6 months later, the strawweight fighters met at UFC 223 with ‘Thug Rose’ proving to the world that her win was no fluke. She handed the Polish fighter her second defeat on the bounce to retain the strap.


3. Held record for most submissions in women’s UFC

‘Thug Rose’ held the record for the most submission wins in the UFC and still holds the same record (3) in the Strawweight division. She submitted Michelle Waterson and equaled Ronda Rousey’s record at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs Reis in 2017. Earlier she used the rear-naked choke to devastating effect against Paige VanZant and applied a standing variation of the hold to Angela Hill. The latter was her maiden UFC triumph. ‘Thug Rose’ and ‘Rowdy’ were overtaken at the UFC on ESPN: Blaydes vs Volkov event. On the night, Flyweight fighter Gillian Robertson earned a 4th submission win in the UFC.

That’s what I want to do when I finish fighting – build urban farms and learn how to become a farmer, because that’s what I wanted to be when I was a little girl. “My dream is to be a farmer myself, but also to provide opportunities to others who don’t have the land or the resources, in order to grow food themselves and teach them how to do it.” Gardening and teaching people how to farm seems a long way from ‘Thug Rose’, picking apart undefeated champions in the ring.

Everybody was always my friend but I’ve always been a little bit different from everybody else."“I don’t walk around being a bully or trying to prove to everybody how tough I am. I just use it when I need to,” she says.
